bu-bump, bu-bump, bu-bump

Just over 2 years ago we got to hear the first bu-bumps of our first child and yesterday we got to hear the sound of our second child's heartbeat. Both Zach and I had the day off so all three of us headed in for my first doctor's appointment for our second baby. Whitney, Zach and I all got to hear the heartbeat. Whitney had more fun playing with the toys in the waiting room but it was definitely special to have her there. I get so excited when I think of Whitney being a big sister because I know she will be an awesome one! This picture of Whitney and her second cousin Addison was taken in September and it shows me how helpful and caring she is going to be as a big sister.

Whitney is very proud to announce that she will be a big sister around July 19, 2011! She will be 2 years and 1 month when little Lee #2 arrives!

Whitney Rose Lee was born at 2:29 am on Friday, June 19th, 2009. She weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces, and measured 20 inches long and has a full head of hair!

We have 1 month to go before our little girl arrives (hopefully no longer!) We had some maternity pictures taken at Target a month ago and I have definitely grown since then. I am guessing that is why they suggest getting pictures taken at 7 months before the belly gets as big as mine is now!

My mom e-mailed me my first photo today and I have also received Zach's from his mom so I thought it would be fun to share them. My mom also sent a photo of me at 9 months so I looked for another photo of Zach and I thought he would like this one! Here we are as babes...

I had my 4 hour long screening for gestational diabetes on Tuesday and things came out fine. They said that one out of my 4 tests came out with my blood/sugar level raised a little but not enough to be concerned. So, they say I need to watch my sugar intake just a bit. Then I also found out that my iron level is a little low so I get to take extra supplements for that! I will do what it takes to keep her healthy!

Now we just need a baby!

We picked up the crib that we purchased from our friends yesterday so we got busy putting the final touches to her room. All we need to make the room perfect and complete is a little baby girl!

7 months and growing...

I am now a little shy of 7 months pregnant and feeling bigger and more uncomfortable each day. I saw my doctor on Thursday and everything is going great except that I failed my first glucose screening for gestational diabetes. I go back for more tests on Tuesday but since everything has gone great so far I am not too worried.

We are tickled PINK!

Zach and his dad will be seeing PINK after this weekend! They did an awesome job painting the nursery for our baby girl! We purchased a crib and changing table from our friends in town who have 2 year old twins and no longer needed one of their sets. We have yet to get the crib from them so it is missing from the pictures. We have yet to add shelves, her name above the crib and hooks for her towel and robe! I am looking forward to my spring break in a couple of weeks to make some finishing touches before she arrives at the end of my school year!

Pregnancy update!

We had a fun visit from my parents last weekend! We spent some time in Omaha shopping for some baby stuff! We also spent Valentine's Day going out to eat at Indian Oven. It is an authentic Indian restaurant in the Old Market, downtown Omaha. My meal was the Kadai Gosht; spiced lamb with flavors of ginger, jalapeno and fenugreek. We also ordered the Naan as a side bread. They use the bread very similar to the way Ethiopians use their injera. The food was VERY good because all of the plates have a little kick to them. I finished my meal off with Mango Cheesecake. My excuse to indulge was because Zach and my dad both ordered a 24 oz. bottle of Taj Mahal beer!

When in Omaha I picked up some accessories to make some headbands and clips for our baby! So... that tells you that we are having A GIRL!!! We found out several weeks ago and have been adding more and more pink clothes to her wardrobe!

I am now 14 weeks along and I had an ultrasound today to make sure things are going along as they should! The baby had a strong heartbeat. We got to see it's heart beating, the hearts chambers, the brain and cute little hands and feet!

Casey, Dee Dee and Solomon came to visit us in November and gave us our first set of reading materials! They like their "Baby Book" by Dr. Sears so they shared one with us! Also, Dee Dee gave me a pregnancy log so I can keep track of how wonderful I felt the first trimester! I was also surprised by a package delivery a week after they left... Dee Dee put together a "Baby Bag Essential" kit for me. It was stocked with bibs, wipes, Desitin, stinky diaper trash bags, etc! I am modeling the "my aunt loves me" bib! Her additional gift was a baby bag, which I have since purchased. FUN STUFF! THANKS SHAFFERS!

We had such an amazing experience today as we heard our baby's heart beat for the first time! I had a 9 week appointment today and the doctor told us not to be discouraged if we couldn't hear the heart beat but after about 5 seconds of checking for it... WE HEARD IT!!! As you could guess... we were on cloud nine afterwards! Our doctor is here in Red Oak and we will be delivering at the hospital here in town... just a 3 minute drive!!!

We are so happy to have our news out to our parents and siblings. We announced it to both sets of parents by presenting them with cards. The card to Zach's parents was for their anniversary, which was October 20th. The card to my parents was for my dad's birthday... only 2 weeks early :) Zach and I are both the youngest in our families so the card read. "Your baby..." "is having... A BABY!" "June 17, 2009" When we announced it to my parents we were also wearing t-shirts we purchased. Mine read "Eating for two... sleeping for two... shopping for two" and Zach's read "Daddy to be"! Yet to come is a picture of our shirts! We would have loved to announce our pregnancy in person to both sides of our families but with the craziness of life we decided to announce it through this blog site. I will be 7 weeks on Wednesday and will return to the doctor on November 12th when I will be 9 weeks pregnant. Thanks everyone for your excitement!

Back for a second ultrasound

Last Wednesday, October 22nd, I went to the doctor because of a concern. He chose to do another ultrasound and he said things appear to be progressing as they should be. Now you can see our little poppy seed a little better... I don't think he/she is as small as a poppy seed anymore though!

We are excited to announce our pregnancy to everyone! We found out that we were pregnant when Ann took a pregnancy test on Monday, October 6th, and got a PREGNANT result. We weren't sure whether or not this was real so she took one again on Friday and we received the same result... PREGNANT!

Off to the doctor...

We found out from the doctor today, October 11th, that we are going to be parents! Today the doctor did a sonogram and we saw our little poppy seed who is only 1.8 mm in size! We went to the doctor as soon as we could so Ann is only 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant. We will go back to the doctor at 9 weeks, Nov. 12th, to hear it's heartbeat! At that point it will be about an inch/24 mm in length. We are extremely excited for this new phase in our lives... our little poppy seed is due on June 17th, 2009! The arrow in the sonogram is pointing to our baby!
